Not every company that gives you a moving quote actually owns trucks or employs the crew that shows up. A moving company (carrier) performs the move directly. A broker arranges the move on your behalf and hires a licensed carrier to perform it — which is a legitimate business model, but you should always know which one you’re dealing with. Ask directly: “Will your own crew and truck be doing this move, or will you be hiring another company?” A straight answer is a good sign either way.
